Margaret & Ben

The proposal!

On September 23 2005, Ben and Maggie celebrated, albeit a day late, thier 5 year anniversary by having a beautiful dinner at the CN Tower restaurant, the 360. Maggie had a feeling something was up because Ben had been particularly attentive in the few days prior.

For example, the reservations were originally for 8pm but when Maggie said "it's a shame that we'll miss the sunset" suddenly the reservations were for 5:30pm!

Hmmmm.......

So Maggie bought herself a nice new dress and some killer heels! A girl's got to look good for her engagement pictures!

So during dinner Maggie kept waiting for Ben to pop the question. She waited, and waited. She went to the ladies room several times to give Ben the chance to set it up. Nothing.

Alright then.

Maggie suggests they trade presents. Ben says he didn't get her one. Not even a card.

Hmmm. Okay.

After coffee and dessert Ben stands up to leave and Maggie gets excited, but alas, he really was just putting his coat on.

Maggie realized there wasn't going to be any proposal that night. So she gets pouty. Really pouty.

Add into the disappointment that her killer new shoes were now literally killing her poor feet, she wanted to go home.

Ben wanted to go to a bar.

Hmmm.

Maggie: "Can we go home first so I can take these shoes off? They're KILLING me."

Ben: "Nope! The bar I want to check out is right around here."

Alrighty then. So they walk. And they walk. And now Ben is walking and Maggie is limping.

They pass a bar. And another bar. After the third bar, Maggie says "Can't we just drink there? These shoes are killing me!"

Ben: "Nope...almost there"

So they walk, and limp, over to the fabulous Hotel Le Germain.

It is gorgeous! Maggie is amazed when she sees the restaurant in the lobby and hopes that's the bar. But for those of you who know Ben, it's not.

Ben heads to the elevators.

Maggie: "Where are you going?"

Ben: "The bar is on one of the room floors"

Maggie: " No offence, but I'm pretty sure this isn't the kind of hotel that doesn't allow you to roam around their halls. Go ask the concierge what floor it's on."

But Ben is a man and fought asking for directions. So they go to one floor. Then another. On the next floor, Maggie is now walking in her stocking feet in less then a great mood threatening to go home without him when Ben finally opens a door.

Ben: " I found it!"

Maggie: "Ummm Ben, I see a bed and luggage, that's someone's room! Get out of there!"

Ben: "Oh let's just have a look!"

Maggie: "Ben, get out of there, the guest could be in the shower or something!"

Ben enters the room. A minute or so later Maggie's curiosity gets the better of her and she peeks in after him only to realize that the luggage she sees is her own!

Ben had surprised her with a night in that beautiful hotel!

Feet forgotten, boyfriend forgiven....she starts to explore the room. The bathroom is beautiful, the colours warm, the duvet cloudlike and... is that a hotel robe? Maggie LOVES hotel robes!

She puts it on immediately over her dress.

Ben opens some champagne that he had brought and they have a toast, then a short little dance.

Maggie goes to the window to see the view and puts her hands in the robe pockets only to find a box. She looks at the box and can't figure out why she's put her earrings in the robe pocket, she doesn't even remember taking them off....but then....oh my....goodness! She opens the box!

Ben had slipped the ring box into her robe pocket while they were dancing!

Inside the box is the most beautiful solitaire diamond ring.....picked out by Ben himself!

There were tears, there were phone calls, there was champagne....it was a very memorable night!

PS. Later on Ben admitted that he knew exactly where the room was but on account of Maggie's whining about the shoes, he thought he'd have some fun! Hmmmm.....guess he was awfully sure of getting a yes!
