Margaret & Ben

How We Met.....

Sept 22 2000 - Toronto, Ontario - The Madison Pub.

Maggie and Ben were both out for a night on the town with their friends.  Maggie and her Ryerson classmates were out on a girls-night and were supposed to be on the guest list at Tonic but there was a mix up so they went to the Madison instead.  Ben was there playing pool with his Campus Co-op house mates.  Their eyes met across the pool table and it was magic!

Ben thought Maggie was beautiful and Maggie couldn't keep her eyes off Ben. They kept playing 'eye-tag' for a while and then Maggie went to get a drink at the bar with one of her friends. Her friend kept bugging her to go talk to the hot guy she was eying (Ben).  Maggie was too shy but thought some liquid courage might help.  So while she was waiting for her drink, she was fidgeting with the items on the bar.  Maggie had just picked up a bowl of cinnamon and was sniffing it, because she couldn't figure out what cinnamon was doing in a bar, when her friend pokes her in the back. Maggie turns around to see the Ben waving to her.

She's trying to keep her cool while pretending she's not sniffing a bowl of cinnamon and waves back.  He waves her over so now that the liquid courage has started to set in she goes over and they start to talk.  They talk for quite a while longer before Maggie's friends wanted to leave to go salsa dancing.

Maggie felt she wasn't done talking with this kind stranger so they traded phone numbers and said they would meet up again.  Then Ben decided to come salsa dancing with them.  He wasn't quite ready for her to leave either!

They moved the party to Plaza Flamingo.  The night eventually wound down and the party moved back to Maggie's place. Her male roommates interrogated poor Ben until about four in the morning, when Ben left.

Ben was good to his word....he didn't wait the 'man-rules' three days before calling Maggie for their date.  They went out on their first official date a few days later to Alice Fazooli's.

It was without a doubt the worst date either had been on!  They both spoke to the waiter more then each other!

They started to walk home when they passed Chicago's bar on Queen St and heard some great blues coming out the door.  They realized they both liked jazz/blues and went in to listen for a while.  The date got a lot better from there as they relaxed and got to know each other.

They even had their first kiss to the groovy sounds of the band.

And the rest is history!
